Darlene was born on May 17, 1923, a daughter of Sam and Alta (Sprinkle) Williams. She married Charles R. Smith on October 23, 1939 in Kahoka, MO. He preceded her in death on August 5, 1988 in Peoria.

She is survived by her son, Charles “Larry” (Darlene) Smith of Mt. Vernon, WA; daughter, Nancy (Nicolas) Tosti of Peoria; grandsons, Charles “Rick” Smith of Peoria, Robert Smith of Anchorage, AK and William Smith of Kent, WA; granddaughters, Michelle Johnson and Kayla Rotramel, both of Pekin; sister, Larue Olomon of Peoria; brother, Dwayne Williams of Norfolk, VA; 14 great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

Darlene started her career at Nelson’s Foundry and W.A. Laidlaw in the 1950’s. She found her calling through the Peoria South Side Mission. After over 30 years, she retired as a supervisor in the mid 1980’s. While employed at the South Side Mission, she was their Dorcas Leader, Sunday School Teacher and Clothing Director. She was an active missions supporter through South Side Mission and her church, Peoria First Assembly of God.

Darlene was also a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans and formerly volunteered at Methodist Hospital in Peoria.

She enjoyed spending her time with family and friends, sewing, playing cards, listening to Christian music and reading the Bible. Her favorite place to be was at church. Her family is proud of her for her dedication to her missions work, for her 21-page prayer list and for her willingness to witness to others.
